Management System

CSX has implemented a comprehensive Environmental Management System to turn environmental principles into action. This system:

• Standardizes and guides our environmental actions;


• Allows for a clear standard that meets all applicable regulatory and company requirements;


• Provides a consistent framework against which all practices across the company should be performed and verified; and


• Guides facility upgrades and expansions so that they have minimal environmental impact.

Environmental Crimes Unit (ECU)

CSX's Environmental Crimes Unit investigates and prosecutes environmental crimes conducted on company property. Since the ECU's inception, 300 incidents have been investigated. During this period there have been 14 arrests with a conviction record of 100%. Members of the ECU not only work closely with environmental crime investigators at the local, state and federal levels to reduce harm to human health and the environment, but also work to increase employee awareness about the company's environmental policies.
