Management Trainees

The Management Trainee Program at CSX develops your leadership skills while you apply your academic and prior work experiences in an actual work environment.

With the program's rotational assignments, you get the broadest possible experience across railroading functions. Structured training and on-the-job experience immerse you in the business.

The Management Trainee Program, usually completed within 6 to 18 months, prepares you for leadership positions managing people and/or projects.

How the Program Works
All management trainees begin with a 2-week orientation in Jacksonville, Fla. Then you will either attend training at the Railroad Education and Development Institute (REDI) in Atlanta, Ga., or begin a rotation at an assigned location. Most non-operational rotations are at CSX's headquarters in Jacksonville, while most of the operational rotations include on-the-job experience at one of CSX's field operations locations. Possible field locations include:

  • Albany, N.Y.

  • Atlanta, Ga.

  • Baltimore, Md.

  • Huntington, W.Va.

  • Florence, S.C.

  • Jacksonville, Fla.

  • Louisville, Ky.

  • Chicago, Ill.

  • Indianapolis, Ind.

  • Nashville, Tenn.

Upon Completion of the Program
The Management Trainee Program may be completed within 6 - 18 months, based on each departmental rotation plan. Management trainees are expected to gain the broadest possible experience across several functions, with exposure to different senior managers and operating styles. Trainees finishing the program will be prepared for leadership positions managing people and/or projects within any number of areas.
